To Parents and Catechists: This meditation will help the youngsters to identify with the saints whose faith rests on the strong foundation of Jesus. Have rocks for each person, markers, paints and brushes. Display pictures of holy people past and present.

Built on a Rock—All Saints

If you were going to interview your favorite saint (someone you have read about or have known), what do you think that person would say in answer to the following: What made you strong in faith?

Listen to God's Word
There is no protector like our God, there is no rock like our God. From 1 Samuel 2:2

A Rock Contemplation
As a future saint, take a rock and hold it. Touch it; feel it; weigh it in the palm of your hand.

Do you ever think of God as your "Rock"? Many of the saints did. Imagine some things about the rock or stone you are holding that might "speak" to you of God. Maybe some of those things are its strength, its solidity, or the fact that it lasts.

Continue to examine the rock as you reflect on these qualities.

Listen to God's Word
Jesus said, "Anyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded it, and the wind blew hard against the house. But it did not fall, because it was built on rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Built on a Rock
Saints are people who build their faith on a firm foundation. That foundation is Jesus Christ. They know he will not let them down. They rely on him as their strength and their protection.

Do you feel that way about Jesus? Maybe you would like to paint a word or a symbol on your rock to remind you to build your life, as the saints did, on Christ. Keep the rock in a place where you will see it often.

My Prayer Goes On
Saints of God, pray for me.
