Mary
in the Documents of Vatican II
The Dogmatic Constitution on the
Church Lumen Gentium -- was promulgated by His Holiness, Pope Paul VI
on November 21, 1964. Chapter VIII on Our Lady discusses the function
of the Blessed Virgin in the plan of salvation. This document was a
turning point in the Church's understanding of the role of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit the Church reveres
Mary as sign of true hope and comfort for the pilgrim people of God.
