Just for Kids: Search Engines for the Schoolroom Set

Here are some recommended search engines for children. These Kid-specific search engines provide a safe environment for student surfing. One limitation, however: Because these search engines are designed to locate Web sites in areas in which children typically search, searches for some Church-related terms won’t turn up any usable results.

Yahooligans This Web guide for kids from Yahoo! features a kid-safe search engine and hundreds of links to preselected Web sites that have been grouped by topic for easy reference. There are also online games, a news service designed specifically for youngsters, and a fact-filled "Kids’ Almanac." An excellent parents’ guide offers tips on safe surfing with your family; a truly terrific teachers’ guide offers a quick course in Internet literacy, tips on how to use Web resources in the classroom, sample lesson plans, and an engaging monthly newsletter brimming over with exciting ideas and links, links, and more links.

Ask Jeeves for Kids Ask Jeeves for Kids™ is one of the fastest and easiest way for children to find answers to questions online. The site allows you to ask a question in plain English ("Who was Thomas More?") and then, after interacting with you to confirm or refine the question, takes you to a Web site that answers it.
